Taiko is a drumming style of Japanese birth. While taiko drums have been used in Japan for over 1400 years, the style of taiko best known today has a short history, beginning in the 1950's. Reputedly, one of the first uses of taiko was as a battlefield tool--to intimidate the enemy and also to signal troops.
